From what I've seen, Cox Communications is always doing these special deals and promotions, like the free Golden Knights t-shirt thing in Vegas. It's totally a marketing move to get more people talking about them and coming into their stores. I remember grabbing a freebie once when they had a concert ticket giveaway, and it definitely made me pay attention to their services for a while!
The real deal is companies like Cox know people love free stuff, especially tied to local sports or events. Even if you don't sign up for their cable or internet right then, you walk away remembering Cox and you tell your friends. In my opinion, it makes sense from their side because every person who comes in for a shirt might turn into a new customer. It probably works, too — people are showing up, stores are getting busy, and social media blows up about it. So yeah, it's all about building hype and getting more customers in the door without feeling like a hard sell. I say, why not grab the free t-shirt if you can?
