Honestly, I think there's a good chance that's what Microsoft is doing. Like, when they decide to let go of people and shut down stuff like Skype, they're probably trying to put all their attention into their main things, like Teams. My friend had to switch from Skype to Teams at school, and she said Teams had way more features than Skype ever did, so maybe it does mean Microsoft is putting more effort into the new stuff.
Companies do this all the time where they have to trim down to just focus on what works. It's not really fun for the people who lose jobs, but if you look at it from the business side, having fewer distractions means they can push their good products even further. Hopefully, Microsoft taking all those resources from Skype and those layoffs will actually make Teams and their other apps way better and easier to use. I'd be super annoyed if all that happened and nothing changed, but if Teams keeps getting cool updates, maybe it's worth it? I guess we'll see soon. If you're someone affected, that totally sucks, but hopefully the company does right by you.
