I see why some people might worry that banning smoking at the ojude oba festival could mess with the vibe, especially if they're used to seeing older folks or certain groups light up during the parade. There's always that fear that changing something traditional takes away from the authenticity, you know?
But honestly, I think whatever fun people have shouldn't depend on tobacco. Most people go to the festival for the culture, the fashion, the music, and showing respect to the king, not because they want to see or smell smoke everywhere! Plus, families with little kids and grandparents would probably enjoy the day a lot more without secondhand smoke floating around.
I've heard stories about how in the past, some folks thought it looked 'cool' to smoke at events, but now with more health info out there and rules like Nigeria's National Tobacco Control Act, it feels kind of dated. I say, let’s keep the good traditions like dancing and matching outfits but ditch the stuff that could get someone sick. The fun shouldn’t depend on a cigarette!
