Honestly, getting called shameless can totally mess up someone’s career in entertainment, at least for a while. People care a lot about how you act, and if you do something bad and act like nothing happened, that just makes it worse. Like, think of all those celebs who get caught in scandals, and the fans just stop supporting them. Sometimes their work dries up for years, or they get dropped by brands. I’ve even stopped following people because of stuff like that.

But for some celebs, people do just forget after a bit, or they make a comeback. I always see comments about how quickly public drama gets replaced with the next big thing. If the celebrity shows they’re actually sorry and does something to make up for it, people are way more willing to forgive. But with James Argent, since he looked like he didn’t care, the backlash is way worse.

It definitely depends on the person and what they did, but your reputation does take a hit if you get called shameless and ignore it. Most people just want to see that you’re a decent person and can admit when you’re wrong. That’s what I pay attention to anyway.
