I keep wondering about this too! When I saw mamman nasir ali get 14 years for the subsidy fraud, I was like, wait, is this actually real? For so long, it feels like in Nigeria, if you have enough money or powerful connections, you can just walk away from crimes.

But now, with mamman nasir ali (the son of a major political figure) actually convicted, it feels different. Some people online say it's just for the camera, to make it look like they're cracking down, but others believe maybe things are changing. Honestly, I don’t know if it will scare other rich people straight yet. Just because one guy got sentenced doesn’t mean the system is suddenly fair.

I've talked with friends and they all think it’s still pretty hard for everyday folks to believe rich people will keep going to jail. But at least this case makes you hope, right? Maybe it’s a sign, or maybe it’s just to make everyone happy for now. I’ll honestly have to see a few more big names locked up before I’m convinced things have changed for good.
