This is a question that’s always been on my mind. When people like el chapo guzman or his family members help the US with info on other cartels, there’s gotta be some big risks, right? From what I’ve seen, usually the US offers things like witness protection, like totally new identities and relocation, to keep them safe. But in this case, with 17 family members getting into the country because of a “deal,” it seems way bigger than just changing a name or moving to a small town.

I think the government does whatever it takes to keep these people alive, especially if they helped put away big criminals. But it’s kinda weird knowing they get all these protections while normal people would never get the same. My guess is these families sometimes get a fresh start, like new jobs or even help with money, and nobody around them knows their past. If you ask me, it sounds like something out of a movie, but it's real life. Big government moves to keep secrets and get what they want.
