Yeah, I totally think the Dangote diesel theft arraignment highlights big problems in Nigeria's oil sector. Look, if millions of liters of diesel can just go missing, it shows there are serious gaps in how things are watched and who’s accountable. People always joke about how much oil gets stolen in Nigeria, but when Dangote is involved, it hits differently since he's supposed to be this big powerhouse with everything locked down.
I've read that from January 2022 to December 2023, N4 billion in diesel was diverted, and it blows my mind how that much could just slip through the cracks. It makes you wonder if some workers and transport companies think they’ll never get caught, probably because they see others doing it or the punishment isn’t scary enough. In my opinion, the system lets stuff like this happen because there's not enough transparency and everybody’s looking the other way until it’s too late.
So to me, the whole thing is like a wake up call for new rules and ways to keep tabs on the people moving fuel. Maybe if stuff like this keeps coming out, it’ll actually get fixed for once. But for now, it's kinda scary to think how much is still probably going missing.
