It's honestly kind of wild how many times Dangote refinery has dropped petrol prices just this year. I think the main reason is competition. From what I've seen online, Dangote is trying to pretty much take over the petrol market in Nigeria. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association even came out and said Dangote is using low prices to force everyone else to match up or lose business.
Is it good for regular people? Right now, yeah, totally. The price just dropped to something like N875 per litre in Lagos, and anyone buying from marketers like MRS or Ardova is paying less than before. But my cousin who runs a small petrol station is kinda stressed because he already bought his batch at the old (higher) price. That means he could lose like N25 per litre if he sells at the new low prices. So, consumers win short-term, but small businesses might get hurt. I'm a little worried that if Dangote gets rid of all the small guys, they could raise prices later. So it's kinda a double-edged sword if you ask me.
