Honestly, paul biya’s grip on power feels almost unbreakable, and a lot of people wonder how he keeps the job after all these years. From what I've learned, he first became president in 1982, and since then, he’s survived coup attempts, changed the rules to suit himself, and always seems to win elections—even when there are loads of rumors and complaints about unfair voting.

Back in 2008, he even changed the constitution so he could run as many times as he wanted—no limits. That caused a lot of frustration and protests, but in the end, the law went his way. A bunch of these elections have problems, too. International observers and a bunch of Cameroonians say it’s not always legit. Plus, Biya’s party is super strong, and he’s had the military and a lot of other powerful people on his side. For a lot of people, it feels like it’s less about free choice and more about who controls the system. It’s pretty wild to think one person’s been running a whole country for so long!
