Honestly, I'm just as confused as everyone else seeing those viral videos of police still asking for ECMR papers even though it was suspended by the Inspector General of Police in 2024. It's like they either didn't get the memo or they're just using it as an excuse to keep hassling people for bribes, like that officer along the Benin Bypass caught asking for N5000 or even fuel. That stuff makes everyone mad, and it's probably why the whole ECMR thing was suspended in the first place—too many complaints about officers using it to squeeze people for money.
I remember my cousin in Delta State saying the same thing happened to him last month. He tried telling the officer that ECMR enforcement was paused, but dude was still pushing hard for 'something' to let him go. If you ask me, it's a mix of old habits dying hard and maybe some officers just ignoring the new rules because there's easy cash to be made.
The police spokesperson promised consequences this time. I guess we'll see if anything actually changes. For people on the road, it feels like you’ve gotta be ready with the facts, but even that doesn’t always work. Hope the crackdown is real and not just talk.
