I get why people feel like the Ojude Oba Festival might be too much talk about clothes and parties. Some folks say with all the posting, celeb hype, and bling, real cultural problems like funding for the arts or helping new musicians just get ignored. I’ve seen my uncles even roll their eyes when the festival comes up on TV, like bro, why are we always gushing about fancy horses and outfits when some artists are struggling?
But honestly, I think festivals like Ojude Oba help keep Nigerian culture in front of people, especially young people who might not care otherwise. Yeah, maybe the glitziness is distracting, but it also means more people are talking about Yoruba culture, which is cool.
My take is, it can be both—a fun entertainment moment AND a chance to remind people about deeper issues. But yeah, it’d be awesome if people also supported new artists or paid more attention to cultural education outside just festival season!
