From what I read, Nnamdi Kanu says the DSS basically pressured him into admitting things when they arrested him back in 2015. He told the court that one of the DSS officers, called Mr. Brown, threatened to keep him in solitary and even take away stuff like his daily time outside unless he agreed to cooperate. Kanu said he didn't have a lawyer with him and felt like he basically had no choice but to sign what they wanted. I honestly can see why he’d be upset; I’d freak out if I was stuck by myself with no one to help and a bunch of people saying I better play along. The DSS, on the other hand, totally denies this, and they say everything he admitted was his choice. The whole thing’s gone to trial-within-a-trial, just to figure out if Kanu was telling the truth about being forced or not. I remember reading stories about how confessions can get tossed out of court if the judge thinks they weren’t voluntary, so this could seriously affect the whole case. Honestly, it sounds like a total mess and I don’t think anyone wants to be in Kanu’s shoes right now!
