Yeah, I’ve always wondered this too. I’ve lived in Hong Kong for a little bit, and it seemed like a lot of people wear Man United jerseys or talk about them, but some only care when the team’s actually in town. Like, for this Hong Kong vs Man United friendly, the hype was unreal — everyone wanted tickets, Instagram was full of photos at the stadium, and even people who barely watch football were talking about it.
Honestly, there are plenty of die-hard United fans here who wake up early to watch games live and buy every new kit. But a good amount just loves the hype of big matches and seeing celebrities. I can’t blame them — it’s not every day a massive club rolls through your city. I’d probably do the same if it was Real Madrid or someone huge where I live.
So yeah, it’s a mix. Some are legit fans, others want the experience or just wanna say they were there. Either way, it’s cool for the whole city and brings people together, even if a few are just there for selfies!
