I'm gonna be real—it sometimes feels like it does! I mean, growing up, seeing my dad and neighbors go up on rooftops to look for the crescent moon right before Eid ul Adha was one of those cool personal traditions. When everybody just checks their phones for a Saudi Arabia moon sighting update now, it kinda takes away from that unique family and community vibe. I get why some people want everyone to be united, but each country had their own special style, like special sweets or street celebrations tied to their own Eid day.
One year my grandma told me stories about how everyone in her tiny town in Pakistan would light bonfires and announce moon sighting with drums! Nowadays, it feels super online and less personal. Personally, I kinda miss the whole running-around-with-your-friends-asking-if-the-moon-was-seen thing. But at the end of the day, as long as everyone's happy and gets to celebrate, maybe it’s not such a bad thing. I just wish we could keep some of that local tradition alive too.
