Honestly, whenever id el kabir comes up during a tough political season in Rivers State, I feel like it's a mixed bag. Sure, leaders like Sim Fubara always use the holiday to talk about peace and urge everyone to set aside their differences. I've watched a few of these speeches, and sometimes you can tell they're really trying to calm people down and get everyone to cooperate, especially after all the recent crises and leadership drama in Rivers.
But if I'm being real, these words don't always reach the people who are causing the actual problems. Regular folks might take it as a time to chill and focus on family and faith, which does help lower street tension for a few days. But once id el kabir is over, the political fighting tends to come right back. I've seen it happen so many times—peace during the festival, then bam, right back to political madness.
So yeah, id el kabir can make leaders and citizens feel hopeful for a second, but until real changes happen, it doesn't have a long-term effect on political tensions. Just my two cents.
