From what I've seen, installing solar panels and LED lights at evergreen schools is kind of a combo of being eco-friendly and following new rules. A lot of states now have laws or policies that push schools to use cleaner energy—sometimes they even give money for it. My friend at Evergreen High said his school's new building got solar panels because the district wanted to save money on electricity bills AND stay up to date with green building standards.

Most governments want public schools to use less energy and produce less pollution, and sometimes they make it a law, or at least a strong suggestion with extra funding. The LED lights are also way more efficient, which means the school doesn't have to spend as much money on power and can use the savings for stuff like classroom supplies or field trips. Plus, a lot of people want schools to do their part for the environment, so choosing solar and LED is a way for evergreen schools to lead by example and follow government advice—or sometimes, straight up follow orders when laws change. It's sort of a win-win for schools, kids, and the planet!
