Since May 29, 2023, I’ve noticed a lot more people talking about how expensive everything is in Nigeria. That’s when President Tinubu took over and immediately cut the fuel subsidy, which made fuel prices shoot up like crazy. It was all over the news, and even my cousin in Abuja said he started taking the bus way more because driving was just way too pricey.

Tinubu’s big thing was trying to stop corruption and fix the economy, and he keeps saying his ideas are starting to work now. Some experts say the economy is growing a bit faster (the World Bank says a 4% jump could happen this year), but inflation is still brutal at like 24%. That just means a lot of people are hurting, with food costing so much it’s honestly a struggle for a lot of families. I get why some people support what Tinubu’s doing—because if it actually works, maybe life gets better—but it’s hard to ignore that a bunch of folks feel left behind. I think this is one of those stories where you gotta wait and see if things really turn around.
