Honestly, it's weird at first because you'd think Doha would just flex all their cash and be done with it, but I've actually read about how they're putting huge effort into preserving their history and culture. In my opinion, they're super aware that just being known for being rich doesn't get you much respect. People want to be proud of where they're from, and if your city just becomes a bunch of luxury malls and hotels, you kind of lose your soul.
I remember seeing some news about a big summit in Doha where they literally said cultural identity and sustainability were more important than just consumption or showing off with tech. My guess is they don’t want to get lost in all the flashy stuff and end up with zero roots. I respect that. It feels real when countries want to keep their culture alive, even if they've got wild amounts of money. Plus, it probably helps with politics 'cause leaders can say, "Yeah, we host the big events, but we're not forgetting who we are."
