Is there any way the law or government can step in to help Manchester United when they are doing poorly, or is that totally up to the club and its owners?

Honestly, the government usually can't just step in and fix a football club when they're having a rough season. I've been a United fan for years, and every time the team does bad, people start blaming the owners or wanting someone with more power to help out. But that's not really how it works in the law. Football clubs are businesses and if they're losing games or making bad choices, that's on the people running it, not the government.

The only time the government really gets involved is if there's something illegal going on, like breaking financial rules, fraud, or, in some cases, safety or violence issues at matches. I remember when there were problems with fans protesting at Old Trafford, the police were involved to keep people safe, but they didn't come in to fix the football side. So yeah, much as I'd love someone to make United awesome again, fixing football teams isn't a government job – it's up to the owners, the managers, and the players to sort things out.
