Honestly, watching all the headlines about Akwa Ibom’s governor and his people moving to APC, it kinda feels like we’re just swapping jerseys, not values. From my experience following Naija politics, when governors switch parties, they normally say they’re doing it for the people, like he did with all the talk about development and unity. But if it’s the same people in power, the main difference might just be the party colors and maybe who’s sharing the contracts or political positions.
I’ve found that it’s not like the governor suddenly changes his beliefs overnight just because he’s now in APC. He literally said his values stay the same, which makes you wonder what’s really different, apart from closer ties to Abuja. So for the average person in Akwa Ibom, unless something really changes in the day-to-day running of the state, the Akwa Ibom APC is probably still the same crew just wearing new t-shirts. Maybe they’ll get more support from the federal government, but till I see big changes, it’s just regular politics to me.
