I’ve been thinking a lot about this! To me, the wheel of time getting cancelled really shows that streaming services are having a tough time with big fantasy series right now. Even when a show has a dedicated fanbase, if the numbers aren’t popping like Stranger Things, it’s at risk. Fantasy shows are crazy expensive – all those effects and costumes add up fast. I kinda feel like Amazon and others just aren’t patient… Like, a lot of these stories need time to find their audience, but studios want instant hits now. Even the big ones aren’t safe if their viewership dips for a bit. Some people say it’s unfair because these shows finally give us books and characters we never got as movies, and now they get axed early. It sends the message that unless you go viral, your favorite fantasy show won’t get a good ending. That makes me hesitate to start new shows, cause what’s the point if it gets dropped before it finishes? Happens way too often lately.
