Honestly, the Valeria Marquez story totally shines a light on how Mexican law and the government don't really protect women enough. Like, she basically said her ex should be blamed if anything happened to her, and even showed bruises, but it still wasn't enough for the authorities to step in or offer her protection. Even though there are laws against gender violence, it doesn't seem like they're acting fast enough when there's a real threat.
In my opinion, a lot of girls in Mexico are scared to go to the police because they think nothing will really happen. This case makes people lose trust in the system because, even with all the proof Valeria gave, the violence wasn't stopped. It shows there needs to be more focus on taking threats seriously and protecting victims before something awful happens, not after.
I've heard so many stories from friends in Mexico who say reporting doesn't lead to anything actually changing. I wish the government would listen more to women and create real ways to keep people safe. The attention this case is getting kind of proves how frustrated everyone is with the way things work right now.
