When someone like Favour Ofili leaves Nigeria for another country, I think it’s a massive blow for Nigerian athletics. I remember when Francis Obikwelu switched to Portugal—everyone talked about how it was just about money, but it’s deeper than that. Athletes wanna know their hard work won’t go to waste because somebody up top messes up.

I’ve followed Nigerian track stars for years, and when they leave, it’s kinda heartbreaking, like your team just lost its best player. It doesn’t just lower the country’s chances at medals, it makes young athletes wonder if it’s even worth dreaming big. I get why everyone’s upset—each time a star switches countries, it’s a reminder that maybe something isn’t working at home.

But maybe the bigger issue is, if you treat athletes badly or forget basic things like signing them up for races, they’re gonna bounce. From what I’ve seen, unless things change in the way federations treat talent, more folks like Ofili could be gone too. That’s what really hurts the most.
