Honestly, switching the Belmont Stakes to 1¼ miles at Saratoga totally changes up the game. Normally, the Belmont is known for being a super long race (1½ miles), so it really tests which horses have the stamina to go all the way. But with it being shorter at Saratoga, it’s a whole new ballgame, especially for people trying to pick winners or play fantasy-style games.
From what I’ve seen, horses that run well in shorter races like the Derby or Preakness might have a bigger shot now. I remember last year my cousin put money on a longshot just because the distance was shorter, and the horse actually came close to winning! So if you’re playing games like fantasy racing or betting, you might want to look for horses with more speed instead of just stamina.
Plus, this switch can mess with the strategies trainers and jockeys use, so the race could play out way differently. It makes it fun if you’re into the game part of horse racing, but it definitely throws off all the usual stats people rely on.
