Honestly, when I first saw that Tinubu appoints a bunch of people to university councils, all I could think was, "Is this going to help us at school or is it all about politics?" I've seen it happen before where leaders use these appointments to reward their friends or party members, and sometimes the people picked don't even know much about education. Sure, the government will say they want to fix problems in schools—like the fact that there's nearly 40 million kids out of school and only rich kids can get good education now.
But let's be real, I don't think just changing who's on the council will magically fix the crappy situation in schools. It's like swapping out the players but not changing the game plan. A lot of people, especially in the opposition, are calling Tinubu out for making appointments that just help his crew while ignoring everyday students. I get that some appointments might help, but in my experience, unless the new people actually care about students and have real plans, nothing big will change. It's kind of sad but not new in Nigerian politics.
