I gotta say, most people think a federal judge just sits around in a robe and bangs a gavel, but there’s way more to it. From what I’ve seen, federal judges spend a ton of time reading legal stuff, like motions and briefs that lawyers file. Their days are filled with listening to arguments, asking questions, and writing up decisions that can get super complicated.

When they’re not in the courtroom, they’re dealing with paperwork and administrative stuff. I remember reading that the Chief Judge, like Judge Wendy Vitter in Louisiana, even has to do things like budget planning and making sure the court runs smoothly. They basically have to be boss of the whole courthouse, on top of making big legal rulings. So yeah, the job is part judge, part manager, and a little bit like a referee getting everyone to follow the rules. It’s a lot more about research and writing than TV makes it look. Honestly, I think it sounds seriously tiring but kind of rewarding if you love figuring out what’s fair or not.
