Yeah, I was actually surprised to learn how much trouble you can get in if your dog bites someone, even if they're in your yard. From what I've seen, most states have some kind of law about this, and it doesn't always matter if the person was invited or just kinda walked in. Some places have a 'one bite rule,' where you get a bit of a break if your dog has never hurt anyone before. But other states say you're always responsible, no matter what.
Like, my friend’s neighbor had his dog bite a delivery guy just dropping off a package at the wrong door, and the owner still had to pay a fine and the guy’s medical bills. Apparently, it’s considered your job to control your dog, even on your own land, unless it’s super obvious someone is trespassing or up to no good. But if it’s a neighbor or delivery person, you’re often on the hook. It seems kinda unfair, but the law really wants people to keep their dogs safe and under control, especially if the dog has bitten people before. So yeah, owning a dog means you gotta pay attention to the law, or else things can get expensive and messy, fast. Honestly, I didn’t expect dog ownership to have so many legal rules!
