JJ from Austria totally crushed it this year! His pop-opera song “Wasted Love” mixed insane operatic vocals with a wild techno vibe, which totally caught everyone off guard—in a good way. I think what made his performance special was that you could really feel all the emotion, plus the staging was dramatic and just so cool. JJ’s got this amazing voice, too, because he’s a countertenor, and you don’t usually hear that in a pop contest.
He beat some serious competition. Israel’s Yuval Raphael took second place, and that was a big deal since her performance was all over the news, especially with the protests and stuff happening on stage. Estonia’s Tommy Cash came in third (which is wild because he was just one point behind Israel)! Sweden, who everyone thought might win with their funky sauna-song, only ended up fourth. So, JJ not only had to wow the audience, but he had to do it with all these distractions going on and some pretty wild acts to compete with. It was super close, but Austria honestly deserved it. In my opinion, his song was just next-level different, and even my friends who don’t watch Eurovision thought it was sick!
