I honestly think Lere Olayinka put the spotlight on something a lot of people kinda whisper about: Some journalists in Nigeria almost seem more like politicians sometimes. When Lere Olayinka accused Reuben Abati of being a PR mouthpiece for Rotimi Amaechi, he was basically saying he didn't trust that Abati was being unbiased in the way he covers stories about Amaechi. Olayinka straight up said that if Abati wanted to be a spokesperson, he should quit journalism and make it official.
I've noticed, and I've seen people complain online, that a lot of the big political talk shows in Nigeria feel more like drama than real discussion. This whole fight brought up how blurry the line between political commentary and actual journalism has become. It feels like some media guys have their own loyalties, which just makes it harder for regular people to know what's true. In my opinion, if big names like Arise TV don't take this seriously and act more neutral, people will stop trusting the news altogether.
I've learned not to take everything on TV at face value. You have to think for yourself and look at different sources. It'd be nice if more journalists acted less like celebrities and more like real reporters, but that's pretty rare these days.
