Oh, Straw movie Tyler Perry is like, on a totally different level compared to his older stuff. I’ve seen a bunch of his Madea movies with my family, and they’re usually funny or like, have crazy family drama with a big life lesson at the end. But Straw is so much heavier. It’s not trying to be funny or cute at all. You can tell Perry wanted to do something grittier this time—like, the main chick is stuck in this super stressful day where her problems keep piling up, and you actually feel anxious watching it. Also, the way Taraji P. Henson plays her role is way more intense than most Perry leads. There’s not a lot of that soap opera vibe, and more just straight-up stress and panic. Even the whole hostage standoff at the bank is more like a thriller than anything else Perry’s done. My opinion? It’s cool to see him try something fresh, even if it’s a little rough around the edges. Straw is way more realistic and doesn’t clean things up with a happy ending. If you want the classic Perry stuff, you’ll be surprised by how dark this one gets.
