So on Democracy Day in Nigeria, there's usually a lot of political stuff happening. The President almost always gives a big speech on TV talking about how far the country has come and all the struggles it took to get democracy. Sometimes, you'll see government officials at official ceremonies or even laying wreaths for people who died fighting for freedom.
But it’s definitely more than just boring government stuff. I've watched TV on Democracy Day and you see parades, cultural shows, and even youth groups organizing debates or exhibitions about democracy. Schools will sometimes have programs too. And of course, lots of people take to social media to share their thoughts, complain about the government, or just post pictures with the green and white flag.
Honestly, the day means different things to different people. Some people really reflect on Nigeria’s political struggles, while others just enjoy the day off. I think it’s cool because it reminds everyone how important our freedom is, even if most politicians sound the same every year!
