Oh, Aliko Dangote basically changed the game with Dangote Sugar. Before he took charge back in 2005, Nigeria used to import almost all of its sugar, which meant spending a lot of money outside the country. What Dangote did was super smart: he started up more local sugar production, built huge sugar farms, and put up massive refineries here and even in Ghana.

I remember reading about how Dangote Sugar became the top sugar company in Nigeria—that's mostly because of all those local investments. He really pushed hard to stop Nigeria from relying on imported sugar all the time. And, like, now other companies are trying to do the same so they can actually compete!

Plus, under him, they brought in better ways of running the business too, like stronger company rules and making sure everything was transparent and fair. People used to complain about shady deals in the industry, but Dangote made a point to fix stuff like that. In my experience watching Nigerian news, Dangote's name always comes up whenever there's talk about local industries getting better, and sugar's just one example.
