So after Godwin Emefiele lost the estate, the government basically took over all those 753 homes in Abuja. What they do with it next is pretty interesting. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development now controls it and they’re planning to sell those homes. Apparently, they want to make sure the apartments are safe before putting them up for sale, so they’ll run a bunch of checks first.

From what I’ve seen in the news, they’re trying to keep it all transparent. They’ll advertise the sales all across the country and use a portal where anyone can apply. That honestly seems way more fair than just quietly selling it to someone’s friends or whatever. I actually think it would be cool if some of those units went to regular people who need affordable housing instead of just big investors swooping in. But in the end, it’s the government that decides—specifically the Ministry in charge. Not much a regular person can do to influence it, but at least there might be a shot at something positive coming out of all that drama. Pretty wild how a crime case like this ends up affecting stuff like the housing market!
