Honestly, the recent court drama with MultiChoice Nigeria is pretty wild! I mean, the Federal High Court in Abuja just slammed MultiChoice's lawsuit against the FCCPC because they said similar cases were already underway in Lagos. The FCCPC was trying to bust MultiChoice for boosting their subscription prices by up to 25%, which they argued was due to all the gnarly inflation and costs going up.
The judge, James Omotosho, was like, "Nah, FCCPC, you can't just go around fixing prices unless the President gives you the thumbs up." He basically was all about that free market vibe, saying companies should set their own prices, like MultiChoice wanted. He also thought the FCCPC was being kinda shady by only focusing on DStv and GOtv and not other streaming services.
What's crazy is the court called out FCCPC's actions as a breach of fair hearing rights and said they were just aiming at MultiChoice. So, yeah, the court sided with MC to roll with their price increases because that's how free markets should roll in Nigeria, in my opinion. It's like, let the people choose what they want to pay for, right?
