Man, people just can't stop talking about mko abiola and the whole June 12, 1993 thing because it's kind of like this giant "what if" for Nigeria. I've heard so many older folks say Abaola was supposed to change everything, like making life way better for regular people. But some believe that even if he'd taken office, the same old political problems would have slowed him down.

I remember watching a documentary where someone said that even though he won the freest and fairest election Nigeria ever had, the army just wasn't going to let him actually rule. A lot of people feel like he was punished for daring to stand up to the system. And because Abiola died right when he was supposed to be released, some think there's this whole mystery or plot around his death.

I get why these debates keep coming up – it's not just about Abiola himself but about whether Nigeria missed its one shot at real democracy back then. Hearing my parents talk about it honestly makes it feel like June 12 is still super relevant to how people see Nigerian politics now. I think everyone's just kinda hoping Nigeria doesn't repeat the same mistakes.
