Alright, so this whole deal with Tinubu and Fubara is kind of wild and feels more like a high school drama than actual politics. Basically, President Tinubu agreed to let Sim Fubara come back as governor of Rivers State, but only if he promises not to run for re-election in 2027. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about why they did it this way, and honestly, it looks like it’s about control.
From what I understand, Tinubu and Wike—the former governor and now Minister—wanted to end all the fighting and tension in Rivers. But they don’t totally trust Fubara, so by stopping him from running again and giving Wike’s people big jobs (like all 23 local government chairpersons!), they keep most of the real power. It’s like telling your friend he can sit at your lunch table, but only if he lets you pick the music.
Some say it goes against what’s fair in politics and the law, but they did it to stop the constant drama and get the state working again. Still, I think these kinds of deals are kinda sketchy because it means voters don’t really get to decide—politicians just make the rules as they go. Feels a little messed up if you ask me!
