Honestly, the whole thing with Fubara getting his job back as governor, but only if he never runs again, feels pretty wild to me. From what I've read and heard people say online, President Tinubu basically wanted the political chaos in Rivers State to chill out, but without letting Fubara actually gain more power later. Wike, the previous governor and now FCT Minister, is seriously influential, and this deal seems like it just hands power straight back to him—even letting him pick all 23 local government chairmen! I remember reading that the lawmakers who tried to kick Fubara out are getting their jobs back too, so it feels like Fubara was cornered.
It kind of feels like they just wanted things to calm down without fixing the main problem, which is power being in one guy's hands. Tinubu probably figured this was the easiest way to stop the fighting in Rivers, even if it goes against what the people might actually want. If I lived there, I'd wonder if my vote really matters. The whole deal makes it look like political peace is more important to them than letting people pick who leads them. It's honestly pretty frustrating to see stuff like this still happening in Nigeria.
