Honestly, every time I hear about a new Lagos bridge closure traffic diversion, I kinda roll my eyes because it always turns my regular one-hour drive into a three-hour nightmare. Like, I get that the government has to repair old bridges, especially like the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge since it sounds super important and runs over some bad areas. But I’ve noticed that even with all these big announcements about careful planning and alternative routes, everything just gets more packed.
I remember back when they fixed the Third Mainland Bridge, it was chaos. People would try the new routes, like Funsho Williams or Gbagada, but then those roads would just jam up too. LASTMA officers try to direct stuff, but there’s just way too many cars and impatient drivers. They say it’ll be smoother and safer in the end, but man, the in-between is so rough! I wish there was a way they could fix the bridges without shutting everything down or maybe do repairs at night. But for now, I guess everyone just needs patience (as always in Lagos traffic). If you know you have an alternative, take it early, or better still, just try to stay home if you can!
