Honestly, I totally get why some people roll their eyes when they see another happy new month message. There are folks who feel like it’s just a pointless thing people do without actually caring. Sometimes it seems like everyone copies the same message off some popular blog, and it just doesn't mean anything anymore. It can feel kind of fake, especially if you get the message from someone you never talk to, or a huge group message that’s super generic.
In my circle, some people think these messages are just spam—kind of like saying ‘Happy Monday’ every week. If you’re not actually wishing someone something personal, it loses all meaning. I’ve had friends who muted their family group chat every first of the month because it gets flooded with those messages. Other people hate feeling pressured to reply or send one back, even if they don’t want to, which just makes it annoying.
Not everyone is into these social routines. If you don’t find it meaningful, it’s totally okay to just skip it. If you want to do something special for a friend, it’s cooler to say something real rather than just sticking to the happy new month script.
