Yeah, the whole thing with paul biya and all these fake coup rumors has gotten pretty wild lately. I think one big reason is how long he’s been in power. People my age literally have never known a Cameroon without Paul Biya as president—it’s like he’s always there, and some folks really want change. Social media just makes it easier and faster for someone to make up stories, especially with AI making videos that look super real. I even saw that video making the rounds, and honestly, it fooled a couple of my friends until we checked real news.
It also seems like channels are just pushing this stuff because it gets clicks and shares, even if it’s totally made up. People see controversy and drama, and they want to be the first to share it—even if it’s not true. Plus, weirdly, when nothing dramatic is actually happening in politics, fake news fills the gap. It’s messed up, because it gets people worried over nothing and distracts from important stuff, like the actual problems Cameroon is facing. Definitely makes me really careful about what I believe online.
