A lot of people instantly think unions are always a good thing, right? But I've heard a bunch of arguments that the academic staff union of universities sometimes hurts students more than it helps. Like, my cousin's college got shut down for weeks because the union was on strike. All the profs and staff stopped working until they got what they wanted. Sure, the teachers were pushing for better pay and fair treatment, but us students just ended up missing tons of classes. Some people even missed their graduation dates, or had to pay extra tuition because their programs ran over. I get that staff need to stand up for themselves, but sometimes it feels like the students are kind of stuck in the middle and paying the price. It just seems like there should be a better way to solve problems without making the students' lives harder, you know? That's why some people aren't huge fans of these academic staff union strikes at universities. It's a real mess for everybody involved.
