Alright, so here's the scoop. The Winnipeg Jets you see playing today actually came from the Atlanta Thrashers. Back in 1999, the Atlanta Thrashers joined the NHL as an expansion team, which means they were a brand-new team fi's created to play in the league.

But, in 2011, the team was sold to a group in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and they renamed the team the "Winnipeg Jets." It's kinda like when you buy a game console from your friend and give it a new name. So yeah, the players and everything from the Thrashers switched over to be the Jets. Having the Jets back in Winnipeg was a huge deal for the fans because the original Jets team (which is a different story) had moved to Arizona in 1996.

I guess the whole thing is like a sports version of musical chairs, but with teams. So now whenever someone talks about the Jets, it's this whole mash-up history! 😉
