Honestly, if Siminalayi Fubara just walks away and doesn’t stand up for his position, I think it could mess with democracy here for real. I've heard people, especially from groups like the South-South Elders Forum and HURIWA, who are freaking out because they're worried that if leaders don’t defend their rights, it makes it easy for powerful guys to kick anyone out they don’t like, even if they were elected. I get why people are upset—if a governor gets shoved aside and just says, “Whatever, I’m not desperate,” it could make future elections pointless. Why bother voting if the winner isn’t really protected by the law? Some older friends have said it feels like Fubara’s kinda letting down his supporters and possibly everyone in Rivers State who wants real democracy. I think he should at least show he's ready to fight back, if not for himself, for the people who put him there. If he doesn’t, it might let politicians do whatever they want next time, and that just sucks.
