From the way I see it, people still fight about this all the time. I totally remember the news blowing up when James Comey announced the FBI was reopening the investigation into Hillary’s emails just days before the vote. Some friends of mine were even joking that Comey was running the show, not the candidates.
A lot of experts say that announcement caused enough voters to change their minds or stay home, which could’ve helped Trump win, since a lot of the polls were super close already. On Reddit, I even saw people argue that everything else could’ve gone exactly the same, but without Comey’s announcement, Hillary might have squeaked out a win. It’s one of those moments that will be debated forever, like was it just bad timing, or was there more to it? People are divided, but I think his role honestly mattered way more than he probably wanted it to.
