From everything I've seen and read about Tinubu's emergency rule in Rivers State, I honestly feel like it's a mixed bag. On the surface, yeah, it kinda stopped the fighting and potential chaos between Governor Fubara and his opponents, and the governor himself keeps thanking Tinubu for stopping things from getting worse. But if you look past the statements, it seems like it just stirred up even more suspicion and stress among politicians and ordinary people.
Like, some folks think Tinubu just used "emergency rule" as a sneaky way to get more control over Rivers State and pressure political enemies into joining his party. That might not sound fair in a country that's supposed to respect democracy and let each state have their own space, you know? Plus, making emergency rules can be a slippery slope. People in Rivers are probably tired of always having some bigger politician pull their strings instead of letting things get solved locally.
So yeah, Tinubu's move kinda calmed things for the moment, but a lot of us are still asking—at what cost? Was it really about saving Rivers, or just tightening his grip on power? I guess only time will tell.
