Honestly, I've found that even though it looks like Akwa Ibom commissioners have to join the governor in switching parties, they don’t really have to. It’s not a rule or anything—each commissioner can decide for themselves. The thing is, there’s a lot of pressure. Like, everyone kinda expects you to stick with your boss or party leader, but if you don’t agree with their new choice, you can actually stay in your old party or even quit.
The recent drama where commissioners denied resigning because the governor was changing parties really shows how messy it can get. It’s like peer pressure at school when your friend group suddenly wants to do something new, and you’re not sure you want to go along. Some people try to stay loyal to their party, and others don’t want to risk missing out on government perks if everyone else jumps ship. In my opinion, they should be free to pick whatever side they feel right about. But you can bet there will be lots of rumors, gossip, and maybe even some real resignations just because people don’t want to be seen as traitors—or they want to keep their jobs. Politics can get so dramatic sometimes.
