This is one of those questions I think a lot of Nigerians are secretly asking, even if they don’t say it out loud. From what I’ve seen and heard, people really hoped democracy would clean up corruption and make leaders more accountable. But honestly, sometimes Democracy Day feels like a lot of speeches and promises with not much change.

Like, my dad always complains that politicians use Democracy Day just to talk big on TV, but nothing really changes after. Sure, we get to vote now, and the military isn't in power, which is good. But a lot of young people feel like politicians just use the day to look good while things like poverty and bad roads still stay the same.

Still, I’ve also seen people use Democracy Day as a chance to speak out, protest, or remind leaders they work for us. So, maybe it starts off feeling empty, but it's also a moment when people remember their rights and push back a little. I guess it's up to us if we want it to mean stuff, instead of letting the politicians just talk all day.
