I’ve been curious about that too! So, Godwin Emefiele is actually fighting this in court—he’s appealing the government’s order to take away the 753 houses they say he illegally got. What I’ve learned is that, if he wins the appeal or the court finds that the money or properties weren’t gotten in a shady way, there’s a good chance he could get them back. But that all depends on the court’s final decision. It’s like in those movies where someone’s stuff gets seized but the case isn’t over, so everything’s kind of on hold.
From what I read, these cases can take forever because both sides keep bringing new evidence and arguments. Emefiele's lawyers seem pretty sure they can fight the order, but the government is also pushing hard to keep the houses. For now, those properties aren’t his until a final court says so. I just think it would be insane if he actually got all 753 back—imagine having that many homes in Abuja! Anyway, it all depends on who has the better proof in court and how the judges feel about it. I’ll be watching to see what happens.
