I’ve always wondered what makes Madagascar stand out with hobbies, and after looking into it, there’s actually a ton! First off, you can do some wild hiking in places like Tsingy de Bemaraha or check out the rainforest reserves – lemur spotting is almost a hobby there and way more fun than just looking at animals in a zoo.
Surfing isn’t something people talk about with Madagascar, but the beaches are legit for it, especially on the south coast. If you’re more into bikes, there are crazy mountain biking trails that’ll seriously test you. For something more chill, local markets and crafts are awesome – making or buying hand-carved stuff is super popular and honestly a cool memory to bring home.
A lot of people get into Malagasy music and dance when they visit, too. The culture there is wild and participating in festivals or just jamming out with locals is next-level fun. I think if you’re the type who likes to really do stuff when you travel, Madagascar has more than enough to keep you busy and give you some bragging rights back home.
