From what I’ve seen, this time around it looks like Tinubu finally tried to even things out with his federal agency appointments for northerners. At first, people (even big politicians like Senator Ndume) were mad because they thought he was ignoring the North in his choices, saying it wasn’t fair. But with these new 12 northern appointments, folks like Ndume actually praised Tinubu for correcting things and showing he listens to criticism.
I get why it matters – in Nigeria, people want to see their areas represented, especially with federal power. Whenever a president doesn’t spread the appointments around, it makes people feel left out or like their voices don’t matter. If you’re from up North and you see your people finally getting leadership roles in big agencies like NAIC or NSITF, that’s huge. It proves the government is at least trying to balance things a bit.
But I know not everyone is happy, since some argue it still doesn’t fix every problem. Personally, I think it’s a positive move, but leaders have to make it normal, not just a reaction when everyone gets loud. That’s what will actually make the appointments feel fair, not just a quick fix after backlash.
